During my four years in post-secondary education I have advanced my Responsibility Skills both independently and as part of a team. While managing a full-time course load, part-time job and extracurricular activities, I remained organized to meet deadlines, followed through with commitments and found solutions to setbacks.  I demonstrate my Responsibility skills in Capsim by meeting deadlines; punctuality to keep on top of my schedule is mandatory when I have numerous weekly deadlines to meet. I built my Responsibility Skills to ensure everything is completed on time by organizing my assignment deadlines around my demanding work and school schedule.  I also demonstrate my Responsibility skills when managing commitments, following through with my long list of commitments demonstrates my Responsibility Skills.  My commitment to attending all group meetings for Capsim, well working diligently to help us achieve our goal demonstrate my Responsibility skills.

Throughout this term my team and I have had to find solutions to setbacks thus, by taking control of a situation when I encounter a setback and finding a solution to that situation is a perfect display of me using my Responsibility Skills.  Working with my team on Capsim has also helped me accept advice from others. Accepting advice from others, whether it agrees with your opinions or not, is a sure sign of maturity. I illustrate my Responsibility Skills by seeking advice from others when making decisions, especially those that have a direct impact on the simulation. Listening to my group and understanding their ideas and opinions has allowed me to grow and learn during this process. As part of a team I understand that it is important for all to participate and take responsibility to attend team discussions. Coming to all team meetings prepared and on time shows my Responsibility Skills. When completing group assignments I take the lead to encourage meetings and conversation so everyone’s abilities are showcased and open communication is welcomed. Thus far using Capsim is like working in a fast-paced and demanding environment it has built my Responsibility Skills and has so far taught me the importance of being committed, meeting deadlines, and finding solutions to set backs. Furthermore, I have developed my Responsibility Skills when working with others.  I strive in a team-based environment and value maintaining a large social network. I take initiative in fair division of workload, welcome advice from others, and attend team meetings and complete tasks in a timely matter.

WATCV Reflection 2

Lost opportunity to use Professional Skills

During this process in analyzing a skill that I should have utilized more would be my oral communication skills. Throughout my university experience I have always had a part time job. Balancing work and school has really helped me practice and successfully improve my Oral communication Skills. There are multiple situations in my life where I have to communicate with others whether it is communicating with my coworkers, my managers, classmates, or guest it is essential that I am effectively communicating especially when issues arise. I am currently employed at Boston Pizza as a server and bar tender my job requires me to have great oral communication skills with all staff members and customers.  Being in this position has truly helped me understand the importance of being organized and responsible well on the job.  I demonstrated my oral communication skills when keeping track of multiple orders, payments and bills. Staying organized and having good communication skills and being accountable at work not only keeps me calm and efficient but also ensures that all of our guests are receiving great service.

However during this process I feel I should have utilize my communication skills more often, there have been times when I felt unsure about communicating an issue which could have led to missed opportunities. Capsim has taught me that communicating with your teammates has a huge impact on the overall success of your business. Thus not communicating can definitely lead to a loss in opportunity of overall success in Capsim. Moving forward I have learned that using your communication skills is necessary, and that it is better to voice your opinion and communicate affectively then to be fearful of one disagreeing with you. This course has so far helped me grow as a professional it has taught me the importance of teamwork, dedication, and how to deal with set backs. Moving forward I hope to continue to be challenged and grow as an individual, I hope to step outside of my comfort zone and be okay with taking risks, not be afraid of failure, and to have faith in my teammates. It is evident that the ability to communicate information correctly, clearly and as anticipated, as well as listening to others is a very important life skill and something that should not be ignored.

Successful use of Professional Skills

I also demonstrated my Responsibility skills when balancing my work schedule with my school schedule. I do this by keeping a daily agenda and recording when all assignments are due as well as my shifts for the week.
